Cranberry Juice - 2 cups
Cinnamon Sticks - 1 each
Star Anise - 1-2 each
Cardamom - 2-3 pods, cracked
Clove - 1 ea
Rosemary, - 1 sprig
Lemon - half lemon, thinly sliced
Milligan’s Maple Syrup - 1 cup
For One Cocktail:
1 ounce Woodford Reserve
2 ounces Cranberry Spiced Mix
Large ice cube
Crushed ice
Sparking wine or champagne
Garnish:
Lemon Wheel
Orange Twist
Rosemary sprig
FOR THE SPICED CRANBERRY MIX:
Place the ingredients in a small saucepan and set over medium heat. Bring to a gentle simmer and then remove from the heat.
Allow the syrup to cool to room temperature with the spices and aromatics steeping. Strain well once cool.
Leftover cranberry mix can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
FOR TWO COCKTAILS:
To a shaker filled with a large ice cube, add the bourbon and sliced cranberry mix. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to mix and thoroughly chill all the ingredients.
Pour into glasses filled with crushed ice. Top each glass off with a splash of champagne or sparkling wine, and garnish as desired.
TO MAKE A PITCHER (ROUGHLY 8 SERVINGS):
Combine 1.5 cups of Bourbon and 3 cups of the sliced cranberry mix. Chill in refrigerator.
Pour into an ice-filled pitcher and stir. Garnish with citrus wheels.
Serve over ice in a glass of your choice. Top with sparking wine or champagne in each glass.
Notes:
For a sweeter drink, add additional maple syrup when making the spiced cranberry mix.
Star anise can be omitted for a true hatred of anise and liquorice flavors.
